Obituary for Mary Lou Byrd
Mrs. Mary Lou Byrd was born to the late Mr. Clyde Harley and the late Mrs. Deronnie Delle Harley on September 30, 1930.
Mary acknowledges her belief in the life of Christ at the age of 14 by joining Sams Creek Baptist Church in Metter. She graduated from Candler County Training School in 1949. Her garden and her flowers were her hobbies, she loved to dig and cook. She sang in th choir for over 25 years. During her early years she was a member of the Good Will Lodge in Portal.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Willie Claude Griffin in January of 1951 and to this union two daughters were born. Later in life, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Lee Edward Byrd, Sr. and to this union four sons were born. Their marriage lasted until his death on December 29, 1975.
She was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Minnie Coaxum, Marietta Pendergraph, and Myrtis Evans.
Mrs. Mary Lou Harley Byrd leaves the following loved ones to cherish many fond memories: six children: Ms. Glenver Griffin (Jessie Coney) and Mrs. Gloria Griffin Cooks (Jackie Cooks) of Albany, Georgia; Mr. Lee Edward Byrd, Jr. (Delores Byrd) of Cuthbert, Georgia, Mr. Clifford Byrd (Faye Booker) of Stillmore, Georgia, Mr. Larry Byrd (Loretta Byrd) and Mr. Claude Byrd (Teresa Byrd), both of Metter, Georgia; one granddaughter raised at home at home with her, Mrs. Yolanda Deloach (John Deloach) of Metter, Georgia; one stepson, Mr. Edward Jordan of Metter, Georgia; two sisters: Mrs. Emma Kinsey of Cincinnati, Ohio and Ms. Eula Harley of Metter, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Thelma Byrd of Metter, Georgia; twenty-one grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
